چکیده

We present the results of an extensive imaging campaign on the ultracompact Hii region G5.89-0.39 at nearand mid-infrared wavelengths. High-resolution data were taken in the H , K ′, and L bands using ESO’s adaptive optics system ADONIS. They are complemented by conventional narrowband images in Brγ and H2(1−0)S1 as well as by mid-infrared broadand narrow-band images. We also mapped the 1.3 mm continuum emission from the source using the SEST. We use our data to consistently explain the morphological appearance of G5.89-0.39 at all observed wavelengths as well as its spectral energy distribution. The complete model of the source consists of a spherical shell of dust with an inner, dustfree cavity of 7.6×1016 cm radius surrounding a star of spectral type O6 ZAMS. Two outflows escape this shell in opposite directions. Half of the whole configuration is evidently obscured by a very massive cloud of cold dust. Comparisons with earlier models and other ultracompact Hii regions are drawn to put G5.89-0.39 in the context of massive star formation.

MSX Mid Infrared Imaging of Massive Star Birth Environments. I: Ultracompact H ii Regions

We present mid-IR 21μm images of a sample of radio selected Ultracompact H ii (UCH ii) regions, obtained with the Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX). All, with one possible exception, are detected at mid-IR wavelengths, sampling the warm dust emission of the cocoons of the OB star central exciting sources. Many of the UCH ii regions have nearby (up to ≈ few pc distant) companion dust emission sou...

Search for Calibrators for the Submillimeter Array: I. High-Mass Star Forming Regions

We present initial results of an ongoing search for interferometric calibrators at submillimeter (sub-mm) wavelengths with the Submillimeter Array (SMA). Powerful radio galaxies are commonly used as calibrators at centimeter and millimeter wavelengths, but many are not strong enough to serve as calibrators at sub-mm wavelengths because of their rapidly declining flux densities toward shorter wa...

Ultracompact H Ii Regions

ABSTRACT We discuss so...

Micron Images of Four Galactic Ultracompact H Ii Regions : Ionized Neon Abundance as a Tracer of the Ionizing Stars

We present the results of ground-based imaging spectroscopy of the [Ne II] 12.8 μm line emitted from the ultracompact (UC) H II regions; W51d, G45.12+0.13, G35.20−1.74 and Monoceros R2, with 2 spatial resolution. We found that the overall distribution of the [Ne II] emission is generally in good agreement with the radio (5 or 15 GHz) VLA distribution for each source. The Ne abundance ([Ne/H]) d...

IRAS 12326 - 6245 : Luminous very young stellar objects with a massive molecular outflow ?

We present a comprehensive study of the luminous young stellar object IRAS 12326-6245 at nearand mid-infrared wavelengths as well as in the millimetre wavelength range. IRAS 12326-6245 is associated with two ultracompact H ii regions. These massive young stellar objects are surrounded by a cluster of stars revealed by the near-infrared images. With N and Q-band imaging, we find four very deeply...
